Leah Gazan is the Member of Parliament for Winnipeg Centre and a dedicated advocate for social justice, human rights, and Indigenous sovereignty. Born in Thompson, Manitoba, she comes from a family of survivors and organizers, with Lakota, Chinese, and Jewish ancestry. Before entering federal politics, she was a lecturer in the Faculty of Education at the University of Winnipeg and served as president of the Social Planning Council of Winnipeg. First elected in 2019 with the New Democratic Party, Gazan has championed initiatives addressing poverty, basic income, climate action, and justice for missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, including a motion declaring the crisis a Canada-wide emergency.
