George Diamond was born near the Nottaway River, approximately 80 miles from Waskaganish, Quebec. At the age of four, he was sent to residential school, attending Moose Fort Indian Residential School in Moose Factory, the Mohawk Institute in Brantford, and Shingwauk Hall in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. He spent nine years in these institutions, experiencing the hardships faced by Indigenous children at the time, and was among the last Quebec Cree students to complete his education in Ontario.
Following his schooling, George dedicated nearly 19 years to community work with the Waskaganish First Nation, holding roles in economic development, communications, and community planning, while promoting education among local youth. Since 2000, he has worked as a Health Promotion Officer with the Cree Health Board, focusing on the Healthy & Safe Communities Program, including road safety and injury prevention, with the goal of supporting the long-term well-being of Eeyou Istchee.
